SCOTT’S THOUGHTS…

On Wednesday night, February 22, we will enter into the Season of Lent.  Lent is a 40 day season that leads us to the cross of Good Friday.  Because we know how this journey will end, Lent is a season of soul-searching and repentance. It is a season for reflection and taking stock. Lent originated in the very earliest days of the Church as a time to prepare for Easter, when the faithful would rededicate themselves to God and when converts were instructed in the faith and prepared for baptism. By observing the forty days of Lent, the individual Christian imitates Jesus’ withdrawal into the wilderness for forty days.  In some places, Lent is a time of fasting, an abstaining of certain pleasures (“giving up”).  For many, this time of abstaining is replaced by “taking up” some practice that is intended to deepen a person’s relationship with Christ.

Soon we will enter into this season of Lent.  I hope that you will join us as we reflect on how Jesus gave himself for the sake of the world, and then join us again on Easter Sunday as we celebrate “Christ is risen!”

During this season of Lent, a group of some of our church members is planning much of our Sunday morning worship services.   My hope is that this diversity in planning will open us up to new expressions of worship.  I hope you will join us!

Also during this season of Lent, we will have special mid-week services for our adults (information on this is elsewhere in the newsletter). I hope you will join us for them as well.

Peace!
